Parent/Teacher Communication

Homeroom Teachers

Parents, make note immediately of your child's homeroom teacher. This teacher is one of your primary contacts. The homeroom teacher can direct you to other class teachers, pass on messages, and profide valuable information about your child's progress. Knowing his or her name will greatly assist you and the office in exchanging messages.

Curriculum Concerns

If you have questions about your child's curriculum, homework, or studies, please contact the homeroom teacher first. If you need additional assistance, then contact Inman's Instructional Specialist, Mr. Boonyapat.

Teacher Conferences

All teachers will be available one afternoon each week for conferences. Please contact the individual teacher to arrange for a conference. There will also be time provided on teacher workdays for conferences.

Progress Reports

For weekly progress reports, please contact the counselors' office. Daily progress reports can be made available on request. Please see your child's homeroom teacher or subject area teacher for these.

Report Cards

First and final grading period report cards will be mailed to each student's home address. Second and third grading period report cards will be sent home with students. Please note the end of grading periods on the school calendar and be looking for report cards three weeks after each grading period. If you do not receive a report card, you may call the counselors' office to obtain one.

Other School Information

The PTA newsletter, the Inman Insight is produced monthly and mailed to all students. If you are not receiving the Insight in the mail, please send an e-mail to krkmail@mindspring.com or put a note with your current address in the Insight mailbox in the office.

Please take a moment to sign up for Inman's electronic mailing list. This is one of the easiest ways to stay current on events at the school.

Additional information is available through Inman's web site at http://www.inmanms.org or http://www.atlanta-midtown.com/schools/inman. Please be sure to bookmark the site for easy access.

The marquee sign in front of the school on Virginia Avenue generally has reminders of upcoming important events as well.

Student Information

Clinic Cards

Clinic cards will be sent home during the first week of school. Watch for them, fill them out promptly, and return them to the school. Please make sure you provide your daytime phone number(s) in case of an emergency. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! Several incidents of serious injury have arisen in the past when we were unable to contact a parent.

School Insurance

School insurance will be available to purchase again this year. Information should be sent home during the first week of classes. Watch for it. You may want to consider this option, especially if your child will be participating in school sports.

Change of Address/Telephone Numbers

Please notify your child's homeroom teacher and the office immediately if you have any changes regarding your home address or any pertinent phone numbers.

The School Day

School Hours

8:10a - 3:00p. Students should arrive on campus no earlier than 7:45a. Students arriving between 7:45a and 8:00a will be directed to the cafeteria to wait quietly for the start of the school day. Students will be given locker time between 8:00a and 8:10a. At 8:10a, all students must be in their homerooms. Arriving even one minute late will make them tardy. The first day of school will be the only day that tardiness will not be marked until 8:30a.

School is dismissed at 3:00p. No students should be on the school campus after 3:15p unless involved in an organized school activity, such as a club, team sport, or after-school program.

Early Check Out

If a student needs to leave school early, the student must bring a written excuse, with a valid phone number included, for verification purposes. If the school is unable to reach the parent, or the parent does not personally come to pick up the student, the student may not be released.

Tardiness

Attendance is taken during homeroom at 8:10a each morning. Students not in their homeroom by 8:10a will be marked tardy; students not in their homeroom by 8:30a will be marked absent.

Students arriving after 8:30a must check in at the office before going to class. Unless they sign in at the office, they will be marked absent for the entire day. When students arrive late from an appointment, parents should send a note or an appointment confirmation card with the student to the office. It is not necessary for the parent to accompany or sign the student in. Students arriving after 11:30a are considered and marked absent for the entire day.

Absences

Calls should be expected on the day of the reported absence. When students are absent, do not call the office unless the illness is going to be prolonged. When the child returns to school, send a note to the homeroom teacher listing the days absent and the reason for the absence.

Uninterrupted Class Time/Parent Message Policies

Parents: PLEASE do not call the office and ask to have messages delivered to your child or to have your child come to the phone! Relaying those messages is very disruptive to the teaching of your child's class and to the office. Students responding to those messages miss valuable class time. The office cannot take messages for students except in the case of emergencies.

Student Telephone Policy

Students need to take care of their telephone communications before they arrive or after leaving school grounds. Students will not have access to the office phone unless there is an emergency. Students will not be allowed to page parents and wait in the office for a return call.

Leave at Home!

The following items should NEVER be brought to school. THEY WILL BE CONFISCATED:

beepers
boom boxes
candy
cell phones
chewing gum
computer/video games
radios
toys
valuables
walkmen
water guns
weapons
large amounts of money -- if you must, leave it in the office until after school

Transportation

School Bus

Bus schedules will be available in homerooms at the Meet and Greet on August 10th. Bus routes will begin on the first day of school -- August 13. Parents are responsible for their child's transportation when they are involved in after-school activities. Behavior problems on buses will be reported to the office and the administration will take appropriate action. If a child is suspended from a bus route, it is the parent's responsibility to get the child to and from school.

Carpools

Drop-off: All cars should circle through the parking lot and allow students to exit from the cars at the sidewalk along the back of the lot.

Pick-up: Cars may pull up to the front entrance and pick up or park in the parking lot across from the gym. Parents may prefer to establish a pick-up point on the street in front of the school.

Et cetera

Hall Lockers

The administration encourages everyone to rent a hall locker. Bookbags and backpacks will not be permitted in the classrooms after lockers are rented. Lockers will be rented for $3.00/year shortly after school begins.

Detention

If your child receives an after-school detention, a note will be given to your child to take home, notifying the parents of the date and time. It will be the parent's responsibility to arrange for the child's after-school transportation.

Lunch/Breakfast

School lunch wil be available the first day of school. Costs are:

Breakfast (7:45a - 8:10a) - $.50
Lunch - $1.25
Milk - $.25

Students may pay in advance for lunches on a weekly basis each Monday morning in the cafeteria. Students who forget or lose their lunch money may be able to borrow it from the cafeteria manager. It must be repaid the next day and no additional money will be advanced until the debt is repaid.

Health

All students taking medication at school must have a Medication Administration Form on file with the school nurse. These forms will be available at the Meet & Greet, August 10. The school nurse will be present to answer any questions. Prescribed medicine must be in the original container.

Children who become ill during the school day must report first to the school nurse, who will determine whether a parent needs to be notified.
