Emerald Lake Gardens
Atlanta, Georgia 30316
This is a unique garden area just outside the City of Atlanta in unincorporated DeKalb County (near East Atlanta Village).
This 2-acre property has been donated to DeKalb County by the developers of the neighboring Emerald Lake Condominiums in conjunction with the Jane Fonda Foundation.
Originally constructed in the 1930s when the property was part of a 186-acre dairy farm, this garden contains waterfalls and ponds, stone walls and flagstone walkways. The entire property has been renovated and now provides a unique natural retreat that will make you forget how close you are to the heart of the City.
The garden slopes away from the street level down toward nearby Glen Emerald Lake. Near the street there are a series of cascades that run down through naturalistic rock creeks to lovely pools at the bottom of the site. Lush plantings have returned the garden to its former glory.
In addition to rock walls and pathways, the garden has rock bridges (see below), and a fascinating council ring that contains stone tables (see below). This is a truly unique garden that, hopefully, will only continue to improve with the attention of the DeKalb County Parks Department.
A stone bridge crosses the stream of water flowing down from the cascade.
The council ring features unique stone tables as well as a stone grill.
From the cascade, the water flows down to several calm pools.
