Description: SciTrek summer camp sessions offer hands-on science, math and technology activities, creative play and fun exploration. Camp sessions are the same for all age groups, however the activities are tailored to the interests, ages and abilities of the campers.

Description: The Lockheed Martin Aviation Camp is a one-week camp experience for children ages 9-12. Camp is held from 9a to 4p at SciTrek, Georgia's Science and Technology Museum, with off-site field experiences each week to Lockheed Martin. The curriculum for camp covers the history of flight from kites and balloons to gliders and powered aircraft.

Emory University Girls Basketball Camp

Description: Two sessions of girls' basketball camp will be held, with the first being an overnight position camp. This camp will allow players to work on improving their skills at their individual position (post, wing, or guard). The second session is an individual day camp in which all players will develop skills and techniques for all positions.

Description: A hands-on science and creativity camp where imaginations run wild!

Ages: For children entering 2nd through 6th grade in Fall 2002

Qualifications: None

Dates: Monday thru Friday from 9:00AM - 3:30PM, July 15 - July 19
Cost: $170 per child before February 28th, $185 per child after from March 1 - May 31; $195 per child after that
Registration Deadline: registration will continue until camp reaches capacity of 110 campers

Camp Invention is also offered at 15 other metro area schools between June 3 through July 22 (including Oak Grove Elementary July 8-12th). Call for more details.


Summer Performing Arts Training Camp - a program of The Company Acting Studio

Description: Intensive performing arts training program for the young professional artist. Dancing, singing, stage and on-camera work. Performace skills and a disciplined professional training. The most fulfilling summer experience for a young performer.

Ages: 6-17

Qualifications: Audition required - one monologue (no more than 1 minute long). Audition takes approximately 45 minutes and includes theatre games, a cold reading, and an interview.
Dates: July 8th through August 1st 2002
Cost: $900.00 for the four week session
Registration Deadline: Audition required. Audition dates are March 10th and May 19th by appointment only.


More Intown Summer Camps:

Summer Day Camp at Piedmont Park, sponsored by the Piedmont Park Conservancy and Metro Atlanta YMCA.

Camp runs from May 28th through August 9th and accepts kids age 6-12. Each 1-week session is $140 (Piedmont Park Conservancy members pay $125/session; siblings receive $10 off each session; scholarship is available based on need).

Camp hours are 9:00a - 4:00p. Pre-camp starting at 7:30a and post-camp ending at 6:00p are available.

The camp will focus on environmental education and gardening; arts & crafts; team sports & recreational games; and swimming.

Camp Discovery at The Children's School (across from Piedmont Park on 10th Street)

Camp runs from June 17 - August 9 and accepts children from age 3 through 7th grade. Sessions are 2 weeks long and cost $385.

Camp hours are 9:00a - 4:00p. Pre-camp starts at 8:00a and is free; post-camp is available until 6:00p and costs $65/wk.

The camp provides enriching activities to children of different age and developmental levels. Offerings include art, music, swimming, computer technology, and field trips. Session themes include: Sports Explosion (6-17 to 6-28); Wild Wonders (7-1 to 7-12); Lights, Camera, Action! (7-15 to 7-26); and Wet and Wild (7-29 to 8-9)

Circus Camp at The Friends School of Atlanta in Decatur (Candler Road)

Camp runs from June 17 - August 9 and accepts children from age 5 through teens. Sessions are weekly and cost $175 each week.

Camp hours are 10:00a - 3:30p. Both Pre-camp (starting at 8:00) and Post-Camp (ending at 6:00) are available for $5.00/day each.

This is a very unique camp. Campers learn the circus arts, as well as other performing and visual arts. Kids can learn to fly on the trapeze, walk a tightrope, be a clown, juggle, ride a unicycle, do magic, tell stories, and more. Children over age 14 can become "counselors in training" and learn the fundamentals of child supervision and staff responsibilities while participating in the activities. The camp is run by Carrie Heller, an aerial dancer and play therapist with a master's degree in social work.
