N. Highland at St. Charles & Greenwood
This is part of the business district that runs along North Highland Avenue in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood. This section spreads out from the intersections of North Highland at St. Charles Avenue and Greenwood Avenue. This area includes a large number of pubs (some with live music) and a variety of restaurants and casual eateries. There are also a number of charming shops (particularly closer to St. Charles) as well as a couple of salons. North of Greenwood, you'll find a great hardware store, a stand-alone CVS Pharmacy, and the Northeast Intown YWCA (not shown).
Parking (and even driving, really) in this part of Virginia-Highland is always challenging. There's a lot of pedestrian traffic, day and night, and the street is only one lane in each direction (with turn lanes at some streets). There is a pay parking lot across the street, but most parking is accommodated at metered spots along the street in front of the shops. Several businesses have their own parking lots but guard them jealously (with good reason), and have posted notices threatening to have the cars of non-customers towed. Parking is also common along the residential streets that border the business district -- particularly at night, when the bars and restaurants are really hopping.
The Highland Avenue business district continues to the North and South of St. Charles & Greenwood Avenues -- go to overview map.
From Ponce de Leon Avenue, turn North on North Highland Avenue. These shops are located several blocks north of the intersection of North Highland and Ponce, and several blocks south of the main shopping district at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and North Highland.
